1. How quiet is a Canny residential elevator?

Our elevators are engineered for whisper-quiet operation, thanks to gearless traction motors and smooth MRL technology. You’ll barely hear it move — even in the middle of the night.

2. What is the travel speed of a Canny home lift?

Most of our residential models travel at a comfortable 0.3 to 0.4 meters per second — fast enough for convenience, slow enough for safety and comfort.

3. What kind of power supply does it need?

Canny elevators typically run on a standard 230V single-phase power source

4. Is backup power available during a power cut?

Yes. All Canny residential lifts come with an integrated UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) that safely lowers the elevator to the nearest floor in the event of a power outage.

5. Does the elevator need a separate machine room?

No — our MRL (machine-room-less) design means all components are integrated within the shaft, saving valuable space in your home. It’s the more advanced and newer ways of building home elevators.

1. Why does the rated capacity have a range of weight instead of a maximum?

The rated capacity is often shown as a range because elevator models can be configured to support different weights based on shaft size, motor power, and intended use. For example, the same elevator model might support 320–450 kg depending on how it’s set up. Showing a range helps customers understand the flexibility of the design while highlighting the safe working load under various configurations.

2. What does a traction ratio of 2:1 mean?

A 2:1 traction ratio means the elevator car moves half the distance of the rope movement. So if the hoisting rope is pulled 2 meters, the car moves 1 meter. This setup is commonly used in low- to mid-rise elevators to reduce motor size and improve energy efficiency while still achieving smooth operation.

3. What is pit depth and why does it matter?

Pit depth refers to the vertical distance between the lowest landing level and the bottom of the elevator shaft. It’s crucial for safety and performance, as it provides space for shock absorbers and maintenance clearance when the car is at its lowest point. A proper pit depth ensures the elevator meets safety codes, allows for smooth stopping, and protects service personnel.

1. Are Canny elevators compliant with New Zealand building codes?

Yes. Every Canny residential elevator meets or exceeds the relevant NZ building standards, including safety, accessibility, and structural requirements.

2. Do I need a building consent to install a lift at home?

Yes — residential lifts usually require building consent. We assist with the entire consent process to ensure everything meets council requirements.

3. What safety features are included?

Standard safety features include motion sensors between doors, automatic emergency lighting, overspeed protection, UPS backup, and door interlocks.

4. Can the elevator be used in multi-storey townhouses or duplexes?

Absolutely. Our elevators are ideal for up to 4 stops and fit comfortably in most townhouses or multi-level homes.

5. Who signs off on the elevator installation?

A certified lift inspector or engineer will issue a final sign-off upon installation, in compliance with local building and electrical codes.

1. How long does it take to install a Canny home lift?

Typically, the full process — from consultation to installation — 9 weeks depending on customisation and consent timelines. Please allow up to 40 days for manufacturing also.

2. What are the site requirements?

We’ll need a power supply, structural support for the shaft, and enough clearance for the elevator. We can provide an obligation-free full site audit as part of the process.

3. Do you offer installation services across New Zealand?

Yes. Our certified installation teams operate NZ-wide, ensuring expert setup regardless of your location. We can even do installations in rural areas

4. What warranty is included?

All Canny residential lifts come with a standard 1-year warranty, covering parts, labour, and servicing, with extended options up to 5-year.

5. Is servicing and maintenance included?

We offer ongoing service packages to keep your lift in optimal condition. Preventative maintenance is recommended once or twice a year.

1. Can I choose how the elevator looks?

Yes! We offer a wide range of cabin finishes, flooring options, control panels, and glass or solid walls to suit your home’s interior design.

2. Can the lift be made wheelchair-friendly?

Absolutely. We can design lifts with wider doors, deeper cabins, and controls positioned for accessibility — all meeting NZ mobility standards.

3. Are there options for panoramic or glass elevators?

Yes. Our Panoramic Series features stunning glass walls that create an open, architectural look while maintaining full safety.

4. Can I add smart features to the lift?

We offer options like touch screen controls, voice prompts, and remote diagnostics. Let us know what you’re after — we’ll tailor it to you.

5. What door styles are available?

Choose from swing doors, sliding doors, or automatic doors — with multiple finishes, colours, and handles to match your décor.

1. How much does a Canny residential elevator cost?

Pricing varies based on model, size, finishes, and installation complexity. As a rough guide, prices start from $50,000 NZD including installation.

2. What factors affect the price?

Key cost drivers include the number of floors, lift size, finishes, shaft construction, consent complexity, and whether it’s a new build or retrofit.

3. Do you offer financing or payment plans?

Yes — we can connect you with finance partners who offer home improvement loans with flexible terms for residential elevators.

4. Will it increase the value of my home?

Definitely. Adding an elevator enhances both accessibility and appeal — especially to aging homeowners or buyers planning for future-proof living.

5. Is there a cost to get a quote or consultation?

No — our consultations and quotes are 100% free, with no obligation. It’s the first step to seeing if a Canny elevator is right for your home.
